    • True history

Posted at 6:06 pm by arlemhawks, on September 7, 2017

My kid is practicing letters, so I thought I’d post a quick update.

I’ve been researching religion during the Regency Era. I have a pretty good idea of the state of American religion at the time, but had little idea about the beliefs of the Church of England. Seeing as religion is very important to one of my main characters, I wanted some authenticity. Only I found it difficult to track down good sources. Most Regency researchers like to talk about the style and parties. I finally found a great blog post on the subject: https://www.google.com/amp/s/georgianera.wordpress.com/2015/11/20/the-faith-of-georgian-england/amp/.

While reading through, I found that my character’s beliefs were a bit different from Anglican beliefs. Ugh. Joy. I wasn’t sure how I was going to make his beliefs work with being an Anglican clergyman. Then I discovered Charles Simeon.

    • Switching plot lines

Posted at 3:12 am by arlemhawks, on September 2, 2017

This week I tackled a long day for three different characters in my WIP. It’s been a while since I wrote several storylines happening simultaneously. Switching back and forth proved a little tricky, so I mostly ended up working on one plot line per day.

This section was fun to write. Two of the characters had a marvelous time, all things considered. The other thought he was succeeded at his goal, only to have everything crash to end the night. Haha. Poor guy…

The end is in sight for my Regency dress I’ve been sewing and calling research. πŸ˜‰ Just a few more seams, gathering, and hemming left. Oh, and buttons how could I forget the buttons…

    • Getting back to normal

Posted at 7:29 pm by arlemhawks, on August 25, 2017

The last month and a half (or more), I haven’t had regular opportunities to write as much as I’d like. I did finish my fairytale retelling at the beginning of the craziness. I thought this week would bring more stability, but so many things have come up to take over our evenings. Sometimes it feels the moment I sit down to write, it’s already time to head to bed.

That said, I think I’m 17 or 18K into my Regency story by now. Little insights keep popping into my mind on how to make this intricate plot work, which I’m grateful for. I always find it funny when that happens. I’ll be taking the laundry upstairs, an idea pops into my mind, and 10 minutes later I realize I’ve been standing at the bottom of the stairs and staring at nothing. πŸ˜†

    • First blog post

Starting up an author blog! One more step into social media. πŸ˜†
With this blog, I hope to give a little glimpse into my writing life, process, and works. I hope to make posts short, which tends to be very difficult for me.
Ironically, I’m desperately trying to get back to a regular writing schedule. Two long trips this month, preparation for a youth cultural celebration, a guest, and regular mom duties have made it quite difficult. I also think finishing my fantasy story wore me out. Trying to meet my self-imposed deadline took a lot of effort. It’s also been difficult switching mindsets to get into my Regency story.
